Community High School, Class of 2025
Ja’Rayah Burgin, Age 17
Ja’Rayah is who is now apart of lead staff, is a strong, empathetic youth leader with four years in the HOPE 4 the Future program. She’s passionate about helping youth feel seen, supported, and understood. Her dream is to earn a PhD in Psychology and advocate for mental health awareness. Ja’Rayah believes healing starts by sharing your story and connecting with others.

Erwin High School, Class of 2026
Syria Johnson, Age 17
Syria, known as “Tink,” is a joyful and determined youth leader who brings warmth and encouragement to Umoja. She’s passionate about helping kids feel cared for and believes anyone can grow and change. A reader, athlete, and marching band member, she leads with both strength and heart. Syria hopes to become a cardiologist or athletic trainer and continue helping others

Erwin High School, Class of 2025
Ja’Meriyah Williams-Collins, Age 18
Ja’Meriyah is a creative, community-focused leader who loves helping others grow and connect. She brings energy and positivity to Umoja through dance, cheer, and the marching band. Her dream is to become a cosmetologist and own her own hair business. Ja’Meriyah believes in building people up and creating spaces where everyone feels valued.

Makhiah Blair-Huggins, Age 17
Makhiah is a caring and resilient youth mentor who brings heart and honesty to her work at Umoja. She’s passionate about creating safe spaces where youth can heal and be themselves. Soon to begin her nursing studies at AB Tech, she’s already a Certified Nursing Assistant student. Makhiah’s goal is to help others feel seen, supported, and hopeful.

Buncombe County Early College, 11th Grade
Julia Darity, Age 16
Julia is a powerful youth leader, mental health advocate, and co-founder of HOPE 4 the Future. She’s passionate about youth voice, trauma-informed care, and breaking generational cycles. Julia serves in leadership roles across Asheville, advocating for mental health and civic engagement. Her dream is to become a local elected official and continue leading change in her community.

Erwin High School, 11th Grade
Ny’Gerio Carson, Age 16
Ny’Gerio is a passionate youth leader who’s been part of HOPE 4 the Future for five years. He loves connecting with youth, spreading positivity, and dreaming of a peaceful world free from violence. An aspiring chef, he hopes to share his creativity and love through food and community. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, basketball, and photography.

AC Reynolds High School, 10th Grade
Myles McClure, Age 16
Myles is a dedicated mentor who leads with compassion and calm. A four-year member of HOPE 4 the Future, he helps youth navigate challenges with positivity and understanding. Passionate about music, history, and culture, he creates beats and writes rap songs. Myles hopes to inspire others as a teacher, musician, or peer support specialist.
